Homestead

  This is a "homestead" in every sense of the word. Built over a few summers by a schoolteacher and his wife (and some help from their families), and nestled into the woods, this was a very personal project, and a good example of where we had a lighter touch on the design. They both knew very clearly what they wanted -- a classic cabin look -- but couldn't find any plan-book designs that were exactly what they wanted. Instead of trying to piece things together themselves, they came to us to help them pull together all the critical pieces so they could begin the work confident that they were building a home that would serve them and eventually their family, for many years. In addition to helping them develop the floor plans, we also worked to give the cabin a pleasing balance between symmetry and specificity that is evident both inside and out.
